BREAKING NEWS… SCOTTISH BORDERS COUNCIL ANNOUNCES THAT THE LAMMERMUIR HILLS ARE NOW SATURATED WITH WIND TURBINES… AND RECOMMENDS TO THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT AGAINST THE WESTER DOD-AIKENGALL II WIND FARM PROPOSAL - THERE WILL NOW THEREFORE BE A PUBLIC ENQUIRY INTO THE WHOLE APPLICATION COMMENCING IN A FEW WEEKS’ TIME…
The Planning Committee at Scottish Borders Council have decided to OBJECT to the planning application for the monster wind farm at Wester Dod - Aikengall II in the Lammermuir Hills in South East Scotland. Their recommendation AGAINST the application has gone to the Scottish Government, which is now obliged to call a Public Enquiry into the application. This Public Enquiry - details and dates yet to be released - will be held after Easter 2010 and will run for several weeks - details to follow on this website in due course.
Scottish Borders Council came to this decision overwhelmingly 10-2 against the proposal. This followed the SBC Planning Committee’s insistence on a formal site visit to make a proper assessment of the hugely destructive impact of the proposed wind turbine field on the beautiful landscape. East Lothian Council, in contrast, in coming to its own decision before Christmas had neither held a formal site visit nor recommended against the proposal, despite widespread outrage from so many East Lothian residents.
Please get in touch via the Contact us section of this website to be kept up to date with all future developments in connection with this and all other wind turbine issues in the Lammermuirs.
Thank you - spread the word. Email this to others who are equally determined to stop the further destruction of the Lammermuir Hills.
We can stop this madness together.
The threat to our landscape.
This website has been set up in late 2009 to provide information related to the highly controversial proposals for yet more wind farms throughout the beautiful Lammermuir Hills, in South East Scotland. Many controversial approvals for such schemes have been given in the past few years by the local authorities in this area, despite very strong opposition from many local residents and pressure groups. At the current time, there are yet more proposals to further destroy an area of outstanding natural beauty with even higher levels of saturation of turbines.
The website reflects the strongly held views of a large core of local residents, both in East Lothian and the Scottish Borders, and indeed of many people who live much further afield and who have loved and appreciated this special place over many years as visitors. We object in the strongest possible terms to our local landscape being absolutely raped by commercial developers, all in the name of so called ‘green’ initiatives and alleged environmental benefits. Whilst we do not oppose the Scottish Government’s stated policy of encouraging the growth of the renewables industries, with a view to making Scotland’s energy position more sustainable going forward, we do totally oppose the further saturation of the Lammermuir Hills, which are already bearing an unsupportably high level of wind farms and which are already bearing over-development scars way beyond any acceptable level. The outrageous and reckless damage that is being waved through planning at a central Government level must stop. It is totally unacceptable that this Government, and our generation, allows the priceless heritage of our countryside to be destroyed whilst we all watch.
Make no mistake - if these planning applications continue to be granted, the Lammermuir Hills and the East Lothian coastline will bear the scars for decades to come. These are incredibly significant proposals which will affect the area in a major way, almost certainly for the worse in all material repects.
