About us.
Save The Lammermuirs is an informal organisation which has grown rapidly out of the serious concerns of local people over the level of destruction of our local landscape.
Save The Lammermuirs is served by a small committee which acts as a steering group for the campaign against these development proposals. It is made up of a wide cross-section of the community. It calls public meetings from time to time to consult, inform and seek advice.
We’re a group of people who have become so concerned that we’ve decided to do something about all this. We live or work in or near to the Lammermuirs, or are visitors to the area. We are a mixture of ages and backgrounds. Some of us work on the land, or are farmers or landowners; some are professional people; some work, others are retired; some have lived here all their lives, others have come to the area in recent years.
We’re deeply concerned that these hills are being absolutely covered in wind turbines. And now there are hundreds and hundreds more in prospect. Knowing the problems that wind farms have caused in other places, we’re also very worried about the impact on wildlife and fragile ecosystems. To say nothing of the impact on the local economy, when tourists are turned off by the swathes of turbines.
We’re going to stand up and be counted in order to save the Lammermuirs from a blight that will irreversibly destroy a stunning landscape in the space of a few years. A landscape that’s under threat of destruction right now as you read this. Unless we get the word out, it will all happen before people even notice. Then it’s too late, the hills are lost, the developers have made large sums of money, the climate change issues remain unsolved, and the game is well and truly over for generations to come.
So, just like the turbines, we’re going to make a noise. We want to make sure that everyone who lives in and around the Lammermuirs is aware of further proposals as they unfold. We aim to get the message out to as many people in East Lothian and the Scottish Borders as possible, as fast as possible.
